rooster art

While shopping the other day at Habitat for Humanity I came across some cabinets and just couldn't help myself. So I purchased all three....

Then as I sat staring at them I finally came across an idea.....

I flipped them over so I had some detail showing through.

Then I sanded enough to take the finish off the top

I used putty to fill in the holes so it would be flat

Next I used a two coats of primer

I used my Cricut and some vinyl  to make the rooster ....
layed it on top and painted over....(was in a hurry so I forgot to take my pictures...but you get the general idea) then I peeled back my vinyl and this is what I came up with....

I wanted to distress it just a tad so I used 220 grit sandpaper and went to it.

Here is a closer picture of a few areas that I distressed...the white underneath is the primer showing through...

Then I decided to do another one for my mother in law for her birthday...I so love the way that it turned out

Her kitchen has a lot of black and red....so at first I painted it black then used some red and once I had it covered in the red I used a bunch of paper towels and wiped off so the black would show through

Finally I used some sandpaper to distress it as well and especially around the handle area

For hers I just cut out black vinyl and layed it on top of the cabinet door and added a fun hardware

leftovers

This pillow is what I like to call my little leftover....

I hate and I mean hate to have leftover fabric...crazy I know right????? So what do you do when you have leftover fabric from recovering an ottoman and leftovers from a baby blanket????  You come up with this.....

I couldn't help myself....this chair needed a pillow right????  I had a little bit of chenille for the top and enough fabric leftover from the ottoman for the bottom and some leftover piping so all in all this is what I came up with....I added the rosettes from my lampshade and used them here.  It adds the perfect touch!!!!

the horses head

There is nothing better than finding crazy things at D.I.  so a few weeks ago I came

across a Horses head.  I couldn't resist.

 Brown just didn't cut it though so it went through transformation

 a little spray paint....old books and you are good to go

 fun right???? I think it's safe to say it's one of a kind

Numbered tins

When you live in a house that isn't big you learn how to use every space possible for storage.  This is the case with me...I have a dear friend who was very surprised to learn that all of our decorations also double as storage too....

I have had these tins for a while and they were brown then I got a bright idea to spray them cream.  They function not only as cute decorations but they hold a variety of things like Nerf bullets, matches, candles and napkin rings

My 7 year old is constantly looking for his Nerf bullets so I decided it was time to pull out the Cricut and get busy....I cut out some white vinyl and numbered my tins.

I chose a type font I liked and numbered them from one to three. 

I put the vinyl on top of the tins

sprayed them my new favorite color....grey and

here is how to looks no.  Cute right???

No it's a lot easier to find our hidden treasures....No. 1 holds the candles and matches No.2 hold the magical Nerf bullets (so they aren't scattered all over our house)

 and No. 3 holds the napkin rings. 

Catching up

I don't know why it takes me so long sometimes....well most times in between posts....I think it's because I get going on my projects and once I have momentum then it's so hard to stop and write about it...so then I take even more picts of things and am further behind that it makes it that much harder....oh bother so here it is I am going to try to catch up


So do you remember the artwork I did that was a dark gray and swirly???  Well it's just wasn't cutting it so I kept the same canvas painted yellow...then sanded so some of the dark gray would show through and then used my Cricut to cut out some vinyl....stick it on and there you go....intstant art...

 I took my pot rack...painted it black and now have it hanging next to my window in my front room

 I found this old candle stand and just thought it looked cute so I decided to spray it and another one I found (not shown here)

and here she is....aren't they so cute....I have them in my kitchen on a shelf now......

well that's it for now I still have lots to more to post

using frames as art

Latey I have been obsessed with blank frames why who knows...

it's probably because then you don't have to find any artwork to put in....I think that's why...

so while shopping at my local thrift store I came across these beauties...fun eh?? the lady in the checkout said that she actually had all three of the same photos she just got a few days before which just made me laugh...how often does that happen

 anyways I wasn't after the art at all just the frames

 they have a lot going for them....so I took them and sprayed them black and one orange so it goes with my new artwork cortesy of Wal Mart

 sorry my pictures aren't that great and really don't do it justice i was in a massive hurry and the details on the frames didn't come out that great but see how easy it is to make something old look new.

the lamp you have been waiting for.....

I know i know you have been dying to see this right???? okay not really but we can pretend right????

 so here she is in her former glory.....k so just wait for it ...

 loving the gold leaf...aren't ya??? i found that you could actually rub off the leaf.....phew....i know you were stressing weren't ya.................taking it off....taking it off and
